About Examination Cell

 

The Examination Cell at Government College of Engineering, Karad  plays a crucial role in managing all aspects related to examinations for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs. With the grant of Academic Autonomy by the University Grants Commission (UGC) from the academic year 2015-16 onwards, the Examination Cell gained independence in overseeing various examination-related activities.

Key responsibilities of the Examination Cell include:

  1. Prescribing Academic Calendar: It formulates and maintains the academic calendar, outlining important dates such as examination schedules, result declaration dates, and other related events.
  2. Conducting Examinations: It is responsible for organizing and conducting examinations for both UG and PG programs as per the academic calendar and syllabus.
  3. Assessment and Evaluation: The Examination Cell ensures fair and transparent assessment and evaluation processes are in place, maintaining the academic integrity of the examinations.
  4. Result Declaration: After the completion of examinations and assessment, the Examination Cell declares the results in accordance with established procedures and timelines.

Despite operating independently, the degree is awarded by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, upon successful completion of the program. The Controller of Examinations, appointed by GCE, Karad, oversees the functioning of the Examination Cell. 


The Controller of Examination shall be the Officer in-charge to conduct examinations, tests and the declaration result. He/she shall discharge his functions under the direct superintendence, direction and guidance of the Chairman, Examination Committee. The Controller of Examination shall perform such other functions as prescribed by the Ordinances approved by the Board of Management/Examination Committee.


Roles and Responsibilities of the Controller of Examination:

  1. The CoE works as a Member Secretary in Examination Committee under the control of Chairman, Examination Committee/Dean Academics of GCEK.
  2. In the absence of CoE by virtue of any reason anyone from Deputy CoE(s) recommended by Chairman, Examination Committee will look-after the work of CoE in addition to his own work. 
  3. The CoE shall be an officer of the Institute and will report to the Chairman, Examination Committee. DCOE(s) shall be a officer of the Institute and will report to the CoE; 
  4. The CoE will be the supervisor of Examination Committee constituted by the the Academic Council.
  5. The Controller of Examinations may inform the proceeding of Examination Committee to the Academic Council as and when required. 
  6. The Controller of Examinations shall be responsible for making all the arrangements necessary for holding examinations, tests and timely declaration of results. 
  7. The Controller of Examinations shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be assigned to him, from time to time, by the Chairman, Examination Committee.
  8. Subject to prior approval of the Chairman, Examination Committee, the Controller of Examinations shall perform the following duties and responsibilities namely:- 
  1. To prepare examination schedule and implement the same. 
  2. To appoint examiners and evaluators as prescribed in the rules & regulations. 
  3. To arrange for printing of question papers and answer books and their safe custody. 
  4. To arrange to evaluation and to process the results. 
  5. To arrange for timely declaration and publication of result and to refer, if, deem necessary any matter before the examination committee prior to declaration of results. 
  6. To postpone or cancel examination in part or in whole, in the event where such need arises. 
  7. To ensure confidentiality and to make assessment/improvement in the process of the Institute examination/evaluation.  
  8. To finalize the mode of examination for different courses in consultation with concerned Faculty/Department/Academic Council. 
  9. To appoint external agency(s)/observer(s) for conducting and monitoring the examinations. 
  10. To appoint external agency(s)/examiner(s)/evaluator(s) for evaluation of examination.  
  11. To submit report regarding examination(s) to the Chairman, Examination Committee and University.
