Established in 1960, the Department of Civil Engineering at Government College of Engineering, Karad (GCEK) stands as a pioneer in technical education with a rich legacy of academic excellence and professional contribution. The institute attained autonomous status in the academic year 2015–16, further strengthening its commitment to innovation, academic flexibility, and outcome-based education.

The department takes pride in its distinguished alumni who occupy leadership and key technical positions in reputed private, semi-government, and government organizations across the country and abroad. Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and robust infrastructure, the department provides a strong foundation in core civil engineering domains along with exposure to emerging technologies.

The department is supported by a team of highly experienced and qualified faculty members with diverse specializations, fostering a dynamic learning and research environment. It maintains strong industry–institute interaction, enabling collaborative projects, consultancy, internships, and placements that enhance students’ professional readiness.

The department offers two postgraduate programs and is a recognized Ph.D. research center, promoting advanced research and innovation in various thrust areas of civil engineering. It also provides testing and consultancy services for prestigious government and private sector projects, contributing technical expertise to infrastructure development.

Committed to social responsibility, the department actively participates in community-oriented initiatives such as Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, NSS, ISTE, and other professional and social forums, thereby nurturing socially conscious and ethically responsible engineers.
